A statement from Acting U.S. Attorney Matthew Podolsky of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Southern District of New York, said: “Kevin Perez, a/k/a ‘Kay Flock,’ was the leader of a neighborhood street gang known as Sev Side / DOA, and with that gang, he committed a series of gang-motivated shootings.
“Perez, a drill rapper, instilled fear across the community with his violent actions, and then threatened rivals, bragged about shootings, and taunted victims in his rap lyrics.”

Podolsky continued: “But as a unanimous jury has now found, Perez can no longer hide behind his music, and instead will be held to account for his violent crimes.
“Thanks to the hard work of the career prosecutors of this Office and our law enforcement partners, the cycle of violence that Perez engaged in is over.”

The rapper, along with seven other defendants, were accused of being involved in a number of violent crimes that took place in the Bronx between 2020 and 2022, including the murder of 24-year-old Oscar Hernandez.
Key Flock had argued that the killing was committed in self-defense. All other defendants agreed plea deals before going to trial.
Flock now faces the prospect of serving between 20 years and life in prison. If he had been convicted of the murder charge, he would have faced a mandatory life sentence.
The rapper is best known for his 2020 single “Shake It” which featured Cardi B and reached number 51 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was later certified platinum.
