A BBC source confirmed to NME.com that Kanye West was moved to tears in an interview with BBC Radio One host Zane Lowe, which streamed today (February 26).
“The rapper was talking about Louise Wilson, a British professor of fashion design at Central St Martins, who passed away last year, when he succumbed to his emotions,” the NME report says. “A BBC source has confirmed to NME that the rapper says this was the first time he has cried in an interview but was happy for the segment to be kept in the edited version, which will air on BBC Radio 1 at 7pm on Thursday 26 February.”
Kanye West has expressed his affinity for Louise Wilson in the past. In 2013, Vogue reported that Kanye invited Wilson’s students to his concert in London and shouted her out mid set.
“It’s Louise Wilson’s birthday tonight, an inspiration.,” Kanye West said during a London performance in 2013. “Happy birthday to Louise, who taught Alexander McQueen, our friend Louise Goldin and Christopher Kane, Galliano, Phoebe Philo, Stella McCartney, and Kanye West—even though she doesn’t want me to put that on my résumé.”
The interview will be one of Zane Lowe’s last with BBC as he announced plans to work with Apple beginning in March. Lowe will reportedly transition into iTune’s Radio service.

After Kanye released his most recent studio album, Yeezus, in 2013, Yeezy spoke with Zane Lowe in a highly publicized interview.
“For me, in my life and my creativity, it’s been challenging and everything,” Kanye West says in the 2013 interview. “I was able to ascend to massive levels, to heights and never stop because of the foundation that my mother and father and grandfather laid through civil rights, what Michael Jackson did through music videos and the ground he broke. There would be no Kanye West if it wasn’t for Michael Jackson.”
