Juice WRLD “hated” “Lucid Dreams,” according to Lil Bibby — even though it catapulted him to stardom and went on to earn the late rapper his first diamond plaque.

HipHopDX caught up with the Grade A Productions boss on Thursday (May 18) at an event in Los Angeles celebrating the five-year anniversary of Juice’s 2018 debut album Goodbye & Good Riddance.

Bibby recalled telling Juice WRLD early on that “Lucid Dreams” was his best song. However, the rapper himself didn’t share his enthusiasm for the track.

“You think so?” Bibby remembered Juice asking him after praising “Lucid Dreams.” “He said, ‘You wanna know something? That’s the only song that I sat down and thought about.’ So I said, ‘Well, you know what that means. You should probably sit down and think about another song.’

“He came back to me a couple days later and said, ‘Aye Bibby, check this out — I wrote this one.’ He played it for me and it was kinda mid, it was kinda weak. So I said, ‘You know what, Juice? Just keep doing your thing!'”

Bibby continued: “[Juice] hated that song. He always hated it. He just trusted me.”

Lil Bibby was vindicated in his belief of “Lucid Dreams” as the Nick Mira-produced song soared to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, cementing Juice WRLD as one of Hip Hop’s brightest stars. The track was later certified diamond by the RIAA in February 2022 and has over two billion streams on Spotify.

Elsewhere in his chat with DX, Bibby shared another crazy story regarding Juice’s recording habits and explained how his 2019 hit “Robbery” came about after he crushed a handle of Hennessy all by himself.

“The second time I met him he recorded ‘Robbery,'” Bibby recalled. “He finished the whole bottle and was like in the beginning of the song, ‘This Hennessy strong as fuck.’ Then he freestyled the whole song. It was legendary because he was really drinking the whole bottle of Hennessy.

“I never saw that shit in my life… I couldn’t believe it because I can’t even drink a swig of Hennessy straight. But he drunk the whole big bottle straight.”
