Joyner Lucas has shared an update on the music he is currently working on, letting fans know that he’s decided to shelve an album he completed a while back upon realizing that it won’t satisfy his core audience.
On Wednesday (November 1), the Massachusetts native wrote a lengthy message to his followers on Instagram next to what was presumably the cover art for his aborted project.

“Here’s the truth,” he began. “I started the album over 2 years ago. I finished it about 5 months ago. Wanted to create something different than the typical joyner so I started experimenting. I dropped a few records and a lot of the feedback I was getting wasnt too good. I realized that over 70% of the music on there was a little too left field. After hearing some of your feedback on a few joints I decided to scrap the album and restart over again and that’s what I been doing.
“I had a lot of features from artists i feel you wouldn’t have wanted to hear me collaborate with. So now I am creating the album in real time and I’m constantly adding to it. I’m listening to your opinions on what you don’t like and what you like and im scrapping things and replacing it with other things that I know you will love. I know you’re frustrated with the wait and I apologize.”

He continued: “I love going [against] the grain and doing things in an unconventional way. I wanna say I love and appreciate everyone of my supporters who have been supporting me. Thank you for all the continued love and for going so hard for me. Pause. [two heart emojis].
“I’m going to continue to release records at random until I feel like it’s complete. I promise when I drop I will leave a lot of unreleased records on there. I love you and I’m sorry.. #NOTNOWIMBUSY”
Joyner Lucas previously hinted that he and Will Smith have a joint album on the way. In late September, the 35-year-old lyricist took to social media to share a dope moment between him and the legendary rapper-turned-actor on the latter’s 55th birthday.
In the clip, the pair can be seen working on some bars inside a studio while trying to figure out the cadence for an unreleased track that features verses from both of them.
In the accompanying caption, the “I’m Not Racist” MC gave the Grammy-winning icon his flowers and teased the collaborative project featuring both of them.
“Dear hero. I never thought I’d ever meet you,” he wrote. “Still trips me out that I grew up idolizing you, to then me making a record about my admiration and respect for you, to then you asking me to create a whole album with you.”

As of now, neither of the two have provided any further updates on the joint project.
