Joey Bada$$ is seemingly continuing his competitive jabs at West Coast Hip Hop on his new song “Sorry Not Sorry” – while noting that unlike J. Cole, he won’t be taking his words back.
Over production from Conductor Williams and Mario Luciano, Joey reps his New York roots as he promises to come for all that he deserves.

Early in the song, Joey raps, “51 Hart Street, 193 Vernon Avenue, n-ggas with attitudes/Man, I’m bigging up my city, that’s something I had to do,” which may be a subtle reference to the west coast.
He also references Cole’s last project along with the fact that the Dreamville leader deleted his Kendrick Lamar diss, rapping “Might delete later, I know damn sure that Joey won’t/Fuck it, I want all the smoke!”
At the top of the year, Joey Bada$$ came back with a vengeance on his new single “The Ruler’s Back.”
Over smooth production from Conductor Williams and Mario Luciano, the Brooklyn rapper takes issue with fans and the media fawning over his rap peers from the Left Coast, bringing some of the combative energy from last year into 2025.

“Too much West Coast dick lickin’ / I’m hearing n-ggas throwin’ rocks, really ain’t shit stickin’ / ‘Cause if we’re talking bar for bar, really it’s slim pickings / I rap like I draw pentagrams and kill chickens, n-gga / Fuck around with your soul like Ether, quick for a feature / This that black Air Force energy comin’ out your speaker,” he spits.
As for his own city, Joey boldly lays claim to King of New York crown which has previously belonged to greats like JAY-Z, Nas and The Notorious B.I.G.
TDE rapper Ray Vaughn was quick to respond, and took aim at Joey on a freestyle over Kendrick Lamar‘s “The Heart Pt. 6” called “Crashout Heritage.”
“What’s with the sneak dissing? Taking shots at us then hide the uzi / ‘Cause the only badass the world was recognizing is Boosie / Please don’t get confused with shooting them movies with really shooting / Was on Soul album so if you ask me, you look like a goofy / I hope this message reaches you well,” he raps.

In case it wasn’t clear who he’s addressing, Ray Vaughn tagged Joey Bada$$ on social media while plugging the song, writing: “2025 no sneak dissin, only crashouts. @joeyBADASS.”
Joey has not yet replied directly.
