Joey Bada$$ has cleared up rumors about him dating Serayah.
The Brooklyn rapper starred alongside the Empire and BMF actress in his music video for “Show Me,” which was released at the beginning of March.
But rumors about them being an item began to circulate shortly before its release after Joey posted photos of them cozying up together on Instagram.
Speaking to Complex in a new interview, Joey Bada$$ explained that the whole thing was to promote his video.
“We’re not [together],” he clarified. “Well, honestly, it wasn’t anything that wasn’t anticipated at first, but when we got back all the assets, like the photos, you know, I started to kind of like, ‘Oh, there’s something that could be done with these. This could tell the story.’
“So that’s kinda what I wanted to do. I knew it was gonna catch people by surprise a little bit. That was the hardest part, was kinda waiting 48 hours, to like, you know I mean? They was wilin.'”

Joey Bada$$ recently spoke to xoNecole about his relationship with Serayah, remaining tight-lipped but revealing he was single.
“Serayah and I — I’m trying to think, when did we cross paths?” he said. “We have some mutual friends. I think we found ourselves at a few, like, at the same events. And we just became really cool, you know?
“We got a pretty cool friendship, and I think she’s gorgeous. I think she’s talented. She was in the studio with me one time and she heard the song, and I know that she really liked the song.”
He continued: “When it came to shooting the video, I just kind of proposed the idea to her and she was down, you know what I’m saying? Shout out to Serayah because she really came through for me and she killed it. She killed it.
“I’m single, to to clear all the confusion on that up. I don’t know; things could happen. Or have those things happened? Not necessarily. It’s not anybody’s business, but for those who are wondering, yes, I am single. The speculation and everything could die now.”
Since its release, the “Show Me” music video has racked up over 1.4 million views on YouTube. Joey Bada$$ and Serayah both star in the Hulu series Wu-Tang: An American Saga, which is coming to end on April 5 after three seasons.
The Statik Selektah and Heavy Mellow-produced “Show Me” appears on Joey’s latest album, 2000, which dropped in July 2022. The song heavily samples Men I Trust’s “Show Me How.”
