Joe Budden has reacted to receiving a shout-out in a recent episode of the ABC sitcom Abbott Elementary.

In a scene from the season two episode, “Read-A-Thon,” which aired on Wednesday (January 4), Budden’s name is brought up in class during a session for the school’s newly-launched podcasting club.

“Oh, you mean Joe Budden?” a student asks when his teacher, Jacob Hill (Chris Perfetti), mentions “The Podfather.” Hill, believing his student meant to refer to President Joe Biden, replies: “I think he pronounces it Biden, but we will work on diction when the mics are hot.”

The student, shocked to learn that his teacher has never heard of the “Pump It Up” rapper, then plays some of The Joe Budden Podcast for Mr. Hill. “Woah! I’m not sure how Mr. Budden’s mother would feel about that podcast,” he reacts to the expletive-laden preview.

A clip of the episode was shared on Instagram by Budden’s manager, Ian Schwartzman, who wrote: “Joe is a star. It’s ok to admit. We changed the game forever. Our little podcast. #abbottelementary.”

Budden, who has admitted to being a fan of Abbott Elementary prior to being mentioned on the show, was taken aback by the podcast plug.

“Nah don’t gas me.. i love that show lol,” he wrote on Twitter before adding in a follow-up tweet: “That’s [fire].”

Created by Quinta Brunson, Abbott Elementary also stars Tyler James Williams, Janelle James and Lisa Ann Walter. The show’s first season won three awards at the 2022 Primetime Emmys and was also nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series.

Budden added on IG: “First of all y’all already know how i feel about @quintab and this show…….. secondly, thank you.”

The former Slaughterhouse MC has certainly made his presence felt in the podcast game over the last decade, laying a blueprint for rappers to pivot into the media space and utilize their mic skills to open up another income stream.

The New Jersey-bred rhymer made headlines last month by calling for rappers to be forced to pass a “Hip Hop SAT Test” before being allowed to enter the music industry.

“I’ve always felt like there needs to be, like, a Hip Hop SAT test that you take before you can get a record deal,” he said on the Earn Your Leisure podcast. “Some of you n-ggas gotta answer some questions, like: How do you hold a microphone? They’re some of the basics you gotta know.”

He added: “If everybody just know everything with no consequence, no trial and error, then everybody’s just doing the same shit! No! And then you’re muddying the water.”
