Jay Z Target Of Alleged Multi-Million Dollar Extortion Plot

Jay Z was the target of an alleged multi-million dollar extortion plot that was thwarted by the LAPD Friday (April 18), according to TMZ

Producer Chauncey Mahan worked with Jay Z from 1998 and 2002 was in possession of a number of Jay Z master recordings that Jigga and his associates assumed were lost. TMZ says the value of the recordings is estimated to be between $15 million and $20 million.

The story says Mahan reportedly had the masters in a Northridge, California storage facility and contacted Live Nation, with whom Jay Z has a partnership for Roc Nation, regarding the recordings.

Mahan, who worked with Hov on Vol. 3… The Life And Times Of S. Carter and The Dynasty Roc La Familia (2000- ), allegedly planned to put the tapes up for auction or return them to Live Nation for a $100,000 “storage fee,” TMZ says.

When Mahan went to meet with Jay Z’s representatives Friday, he was met by the LAPD. He was detained and brought in for questioning. He also provided the LAPD with the recordings until a judge determines ownership of the recordings.

Mahan was released and Jay Z’s representatives filed a grand larceny complaint with the NYPD Friday.

The Beverly Hills police department is also investigating the extortion allegations, as Live Nation is based in the California city.

    1. Doesent sound like extortion, it sounds like a finders fee. Shit 100K for some recordings worth 15Mill is a steal if you are JayZ and Live Nation.

    2. Why would this guy bother extorting Jay Z? Jay Z has no money right now. He’s spending all of his money to stay in his fake marriage with Beyonce. It’s a joke to think that his older recordings are worth $15mm to $20mm. Jay can’t move units. Those recordings are worth a few hundred thousand at most. Probably not even mixtape quality.

      1. If he called Ross up to bless those old recordings with a few bars of fire that could easily be worth 100 billion dollars or more in the future when he completely takes over the entertainment industry, he’s already conquered rap.

    3. lol, wtf is wrong with these dudes, they can’t even rob right

instead of getting some cornball or a broad to “find” the masters and make “contact”, you call with a story that forgot to notate they gonna remember YOU

      LOL

    8. I’m way too important to be talkin’ ’bout extortin’. Askin’ me for a Porsche is like askin’ for a coffin.

    9. What’s on those Masters? Is the real question this time period is consistent with the Blue Print era so it must be some heat on those lost records.

    10. So what yall saying is that some old unreleased Hova tracks bout to let loose?? Lets hear them tracks!!!

      1. UGH, they are old masters of Vol. 3… The Life And Times Of S. Carter and The Dynasty Roc La Familia as the article states

    11. THIS is not gangsta Jay calling the LAPD! I thought you was real and handl your bizness like in the Streets?

A nigga like Gucci would never call the police but will beat you up to get his masters back.

      1. You know you sound ignorant right, where is Gucci? Oh, in jail. Meanwhile, Jay is on some private G5 sipping something you could never buy in your lifetime of begging from your mama. Get a clue and then take several seats troll.

    12. And that’s why Rick Ross will always be a top tier rapper in the industry. He’s much more low key, classy, and doesn’t pull ridiculous publicity stunts like the one pictured above. Name another rapper who:
      1)has 6 number one albums
2)wins a feud with a formerly famous Queens rapper.
3)crashes his whip into a building and come out unscathed
4)owns a multimillion dollar restaurant franchise
5)was voted MTV’s hottest emcee twice.
6)cancels his shows because gang members have the gall to threaten him because they’re afraid of the harm he’ll bring them

      1. don’t make jokes about Rick Ross & I wrote this, using my own voice on voice chat on my android so it’s like I’m really talking to you so is no fear in my heart

      1. I would assume it’s Vol. 3… The Life And Times Of S. Carter and The Dynasty Roc La Familia as the article states.

      2. and your assumption can be wrong, every album has songs that don’t make the cut, songs we heard are 2nd or 3rd versions

      1. are you that fucking stupid? really? you’re already paying their wages with your fucking tax money you stupid cunt, so you’re telling me you wouldn’t use them for the services they are OBLIGED to offer you even though you’re paying them? stupid fucking egg head

      2. No fucking way would I ever use a law enforcement queerbait for any fucking thing. “I ain’t never met a pig in my life
That I ain’t wanna catch his body on the jig of my knife”. You fucking dick loving cop boy

      3. He has worked with the police for years now. Don’t forget he signed Rick Ross to Def Jam. He introduced cop rap to hip-hop.

    13. “UGH, they are old masters of Vol. 3… The Life And Times Of S. Carter and The Dynasty Roc La Familia as the article states”

      ^ yay, you can read!

but your lack of experience doesn’t note how there can be different versions of that music from those albums, as well as songs that didn’t make it out of the cutting room floor

    14. I love how all of you computer nerds are authorities of the law and the streets. “Oh, Jay Z snitched.” “That’s not street. ” First of all, Jay Z makes a legitimate income doing music, so he handled the situation LEGITIMATELY. He’s an entrepreneur; his drug past is beyond him now, so there’s no reason to call people and get his hands dirty. That’s what the police are for, to protect and serve. He’s smarter than that. Secondly, most of you don’t know the “code of the streets”, so shut the fuck. In fact, I bet 90% of you posting don’t get any exercise, are sheltered, and/or live with your mothers. The only time you witness what goes on in the streets is when you peek through your basement windows to see if the mailman delivered your Russian bride/blowup doll.

      1. you Moron Jay Z never sold drugs he is rapping since he was 15 year old. JayZ is a original studio gangsta O.S.G
