Jay-Z is planning a new Takeover.
The multi-platinum selling rapper recently called a press conference to announce
a partnership with MTV and the United Nations. According to Jigga, this union is being formed in
order to raise awareness and bring help to communities around the world that
are suffering for various reasons including a lack of safe drinking water.
Jay will embark on a tour around the globe, hitting
areas devastated by the lack of safe water. His views on the crisis will be
recorded for MTV’s Diary
series, where Jay plans
to speak on the tour and the devastating situation.
“I wanted to go to these
[countries I’ve never visited before] to just tour and play music. Of course, I
can’t go to any place without touching the culture and seeing what’s going on.
When you start getting down to Africa and
places like that, you see that billions of people don’t have access to
water,” he said in the press
conference.
Jay has already donated money to help bring safe water
to these communities. In addition, he’s made various phone calls to industry
executives and artists in order to gain more monetary support for the cause.
Hov hopes
his status as one of the most prominent figures in music can help raise
attention to problems that have caused so much despair around the globe.
“If you bring
awareness to other young people, they’re gonna see [that] and want to be
involved. I’m not a politician — I’m just a regular person with a heart. If you
see a problem like that and do nothing about it, there’s something wrong with
you,” Jay added.
Diary of Jay-Z: Water for Life is slated
to air November 24.
