Jay-Z Addresses Cuba Criticism & Nets Ownership In “Open Letter”

For rap Titan Jay-Z his newest record “Open Letter” serves as just that, it’s a lyrical open letter the rapper uses to address a number of recent happenings in his life including the controversy surrounding his trip to Havana, Cuba and news surrounding his ownership of the Brooklyn Nets.

Jay-Z immediately kicks off “Open Letter” with a reference to his controversial trip to Cuba as he dotes on turning the city’s capital of Havana into Atlanta before addressing the various politician’s who’ve called for the investigation of his trip.

“Politicians never did shit for me/ Except lie to me, distort history/ Wanna give me jail time and a fine/ Fine, let me commit a real crime,” Jay-Z raps.

The Swizz Beatz-produced number also finds Jay-Z speaking on reports that he may be dropping his ownership of the Brooklyn Nets.

“Would’ve brought the Nets to Brooklyn for free/ Except I made millions off it, you fuckin’ dweeb/ I still own the building, I’m still keeping my seat/ Y’all buy that bullshit, you’d better keep y’all receipt,” states the rapper on “Open Letter.”

For fans of the noted Brooklyn rapper, there may be more new tunes to come. During an interview with Hot 97, Swizz Beatz revealed that “Open Letter” was just one of three records he recorded with Jay-Z last night (April 10).

“We started the beat in Jay-Z’ office. Then we took it to the 40/40,” said Swizz Beatz, according to AllHipHop.com. “And Jay called me in the morning with his verse…We did four crazy joints last night.”

      1. real talk my dude…I knew jay was going to hit up those south florida politicians. all those politicians did was lose more young, black, and hispanic voters for the future. plus, south florida makes no sense….all for cuba but ready to diss haitians in a NY second…..

    1. Here is what we have learned from this song:

1)This guy still talks about “owning” the Barclays Center as if he owns more than 1% of it. Jay is a total clown for exagerating his net worth.

2)Jay has never committed a crime. He is very clear in this song that he has not committed a “real” crime yet. That’s what I’ve been telling you idiots.

3)Jay-Z doesn’t care about anyone, including our first black president. Jay only cares about himself. Even Obama had to learn that the hard way. Obama is right to distance himself from this Camel.

      4)Lyrically, Jay has fallen off.

      1. You are right. In order to be a real rapper you have to have committed a real crime. Who cares how good you are at the real rapping, its the real crime that counts.

      2. Jay owns ZERO % of the arena…

Also, I do believe he sold some drugs down in Maryland or wherever but he was hardly moving big weight… which, to his credit, is smart but yah, to glorify his fake thug life…

      3. Was going to destroy you and your comment, but then I realized you’re not even worth my time.

      4. You’re entitled to your opinions about him falling off and such but I refuse to believe someone who

        1-don’t know Jay-Z

        2-don’t own any NBA teams

3-isn’t Jay-Z’s bank accountant, business partner or sign any of his checks

        4-doesn’t know Obama

5-doesn’t work from a credible news source,

6-doesn’t like Jay-Z even though you probably own a Nets snap

The decision is pretty clear on who to believe on this one.

    2. I’m making $86 an hour working from home. I was shocked when my neighbor told me she was averaging $95 but I see how it works now. I feel so much freedom now that I’m my own boss. This is what I do, wow55.com

    3. jay z bores me now he has nothing to say except im so fucking rich and got all these deals look at me im nearly 50

      1. I thought that’s what ya’ll liked. Because “that’s what sells”. If any rapper that’s so called selling was to change subject they would get a writers block or choke on the mic if they don’t write.

    4. wut up ya’ll. It’s Colione from the world famous j.u.s.t.i.c.e league. I just want to thank all of our fans and everyone else who bows to us. I know all of you know what’s up. Were still on top. were still making hit’s. And soon all of you will bow to our name. WE WON A GRAMMY MOTHERFUCKER!!!!! WE DID A TRACK WITH MARY J. BLIGE. I’VE GOT J.U.S.T.I.C.E LEAGUE TATOOED ON MY HAND….SO YOU BETTER DROP TO YOU KNEES YOU SHIT MOTHERFUCKER.. BECAUSE YOUR NOT SHIT COMPARED TO ME.That’s what’s up. And if you don’t know, now you know nigga….

    5. corny bitch exposed, gets mighty defensive about it… keeps the lies up too.

FACT: Jay owns zero point zero % of the Brooklyn arena, just a shade less than he owns of the team.

If he made some money letting himself be used as House Negro, good for him, doesn’t make his third-class status any different.

      1. You comment about Jay’s ownership but all you own is a pair foams, a dub sack, a pack of cigars, and living with your parents. FOH! .10% ownership of the Nets is more money than you will EVER see in your lifetime loser.

      2. No one is saying that Jay-Z isn’t rich. But if he is worth $250mm, why lie and pretend that he’s worth $475mm.

    6. How can a guy that looks a little slow (open mouth all the time) get a hottie wife? $$$$$
Who cares what Jay Z says, he’s not smart… just has rap music talent.

    7. Rap Titan Gay-Z LMAO dude could barely outrap Wocka Flocka, never had anything written either, are you serious?

    8. bitches lash out when they feel threatened; what you hiding, Shawn? butt hurt the fraud of your Nets “ownership” is finally widely known (though people who paid attention knew it was straight bullshit from the start).

      1. Jay-Z received the tile as “Head Director” of the Barclays center. Any event which takes place at the Brooklyn arena goes through Shawn Carter. That doesn’t say anything about ownership. However, it is a position and job title, I’m sure you and I both would love to acquire 😀

    9. Why can’t for once a rapper just come out and explain his reasoning for doing something instead of turning it into another ego fueled song?

      1. in hiphop there is no such thing as corny white or black.. its corney everything, if anything the corney era is spearheaded by black like soujla boy, guccia, chainz them wack fucks

    10. I don’t get it, CUBA off limit’s but as soon as they show up on the shores of South Florida -they let them in, but when haitians show up they send them back?? Haiti isn;t off limit’s…WTF

    11. Jay owns ZERO POINT ZERO % of the Barclay’s Arena.

What part of reality are you rap retards unable to grasp?

      1. I’ll give you the benefit of doubt. If not, I would be forced to believe that you don’t understand “Zero point Zero%” as 0%. Cleary, that would amount to nothing at all. Pre-Algebra should be of some assistance should you choose such a path.

    12. if i was really birdman’s accountant would i spend all my time on this site no because i would get fired and weezy would slap me

    13. I could write my name on a test, answer one question, turn that bitch in, and still get a higher percentage than what Jay-z owns of the Brooklyn Nets lmfao.

      1. Except, you can’t afford Jay’s percentage of the nets. You should read a bit more often. That should provide some insight.

    14. The world is under a new management… its will get hot at first but when we win thats when you all will learn… Its Hova

    15. what ya’ll don’t fuckin get is that Jigga is addressing heads of state while your bitchmade favorite rapper is addressing other bitchmade rappers. Birds of a feather motherfucker!!!

    16. jayz back to run rap again for a while.. hope to hear a k.dot collabo and an eminem collable..maybe nas to?

    18. According to the New York Times & Forbes Jay Z owns 1/5 of a percent of the Barclays Center. Doesn’t sound like much at first but when you consider the building the building is worth more than a billion that means his stake is worth over 2 million (by both publications).

His original investment was for 1 million in the team. That number is expected to go up when he finishes divesting his interest in the team. Plus he receives profits from the overall venue for ALL events there.

Add this with the fact that all his products, including: the 40/40 club, RocaWear Store (which he stills splits profits from through Iconix), Ace of Spades/Hublot Watches/D’usse Cognac (all of which he has equity in): receive prime placement within the venue and its attractions.

He will literally pull in millions from this venture. All things considered he’s going to make anywhere from 5-10 million from his affiliation with the nets organization annually since the move to Brooklyn.

    19. This is how JayZ expresses himself. Cool. Am I going to take this song literally and follow his story like it’s a part of my life? No. I am going to be happy that I can read and that I read the article. I am going to move on to some thing else because I enjoy living my own life. Yes. May you all live long and be prosperous.
