Jamie Foxx’s hospitalization was first announced by his daughter, Corinne Foxx, last month. She revealed he had experienced an unspecified “medical complication,” but was already on the mend.
“From the Foxx Family. We wanted to share that, my father, Jamie Foxx, experienced a medical complication yesterday,” she said in a statement. “Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery.”
She added: “We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers. The family asks for privacy during this time. Much love, the Foxx Family.”
TMZ reported at the time that Jamie Foxx’s condition was serious enough that he had to be taken to the hospital, with members of his family visiting him. He was said to be “communicating now, and that’s good news.”
Over a week later, a source close to the actor/singer told PEOPLE that he was “awake and alert.”
“He’s OK, thank God,” the source said. “He’s still in the hospital and doctors are running tests but he’s awake and alert. They’re keeping him under observation.”
Prior to this incident, Jamie Foxx was in the middle of filming the action-comedy movie Back in Action in Atlanta at the time he was hospitalized.
The upcoming film — directed by Seth Gordon and also starring Cameron Diaz, Glenn Close and Kyle Chandler — is set to be released on Netflix in 2024.
Due to Jamie Foxx’s absence, TMZ reported a stunt double and body double have been seen filling in for him.
