Jamie Foxx’sThey Cloned Tyrone co-star John Boyega has given an update on his health — and it’s promising news.

Boyega spoke with PEOPLE during the premiere of their new film on Tuesday (June 27) and said he recently was able to speak with Foxx on the phone after trying to get hold of him for weeks.

“He finally picked up the phone. Thank you, bro,” Boyega said. “He’s doing well. And then, you know, we just giving him the privacy, and we can’t wait for his return.”

He continued: “I gave him the well wishes directly. I gave him all the well wishes. So I’m just gonna be waiting until he comes back out here. So take your time, Jamie. We love you, bro.”

They Cloned Tyrone co-producer Datari Turner also shared a promising update about Foxx’s condition, saying the 55-year-old is “doing amazing.”

“I promise you, [he’s] doing really, really good,” Turner said. “[Director] Juel [Taylor] talked to him yesterday. John Boyega talked to him yesterday. He’s in really, really good shape and spirits. And he’ll be back on the screen. He’ll be back to work very soon.”

Teyonah Parris, who also stars in the sci-fi mystery caper, told the outlet that she wishes Jamie “all the recovery and healing,” noting that “it was just such an honor to work with him.”

“He’s so generous as an actor and as a human, along with John. I got lucky to be able to work with such dope men on this project, and dope men of color, that it was just so much fun,” said Parris. “We would never work. We all just had fun laughing and partying.”

The actor’s hospitalization was first announced by his daughter Corinne back in April. She revealed he had experienced an unspecified “medical complication.”

“From the Foxx Family. We wanted to share that, my father, Jamie Foxx, experienced a medical complication yesterday,” she said in a statement at the time. “Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery.”

She added: “We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers. The family asks for privacy during this time. Much love, the Foxx Family.”

In May it was reported that Foxx was recovering at a physical rehab center, with the facility known to specialize in stroke recovery, traumatic brain injury rehab, spinal cord injury rehab and cancer rehabilitation.

Rumors were also afloat earlier this month that Foxx had suffered a medical complication due to a reaction from the COVID-19 vaccine, although a spokesperson called the speculation “completely inaccurate” in an e-mail to MSNBC.
