Jamie Foxx's Health Complication Revealed By Actor Friend: 'He Was Going Through A Lot'

Jamie Foxx’s health complication was due to a nervous breakdown that stemmed from being overworked, according to one of his friends and collaborators.

Menace II Society star Tryin Turner sat down for an interview with The Art of Dialogue on Tuesday (March 5), where he shed light on Foxx’s hospitalization and current condition.

“He’s in great shape. He’s cool. He had a little scare but he got over that fast. He went to his little rehab or whatever, and he back,” he said.

“It was more stress. He just had a lot that he was going through, like some kind of weird nervous breakdown kinda thing ’cause he was just overworked and it just went bad. He blanked out.”

Turner also downplayed Foxx’s health issues slightly by adding: “It wasn’t nothing overly major to me. Jamie, you know, he’s dramatic a little bit. We actors! I’m not saying the whole thing was an act but it wasn’t totally super crazy.”

Jamie Foxx was hospitalized last April, with his daughter Corinne announcing on social media that he had suffered an unspecified “medical complication.”

“Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery,” she added.

The actor/comedian was released from hospital the following month. Despite wild theories surrounding his health scare, including that he was cloned, he has seemingly made a full recovery.

While the 55-year-old has yet to fully disclose what happened, he has touched on his hospitalization numerous times since making his way back into the public eye.

In an emotional speech at the Critics Choice Association’s Celebration of Cinema & Television: Honoring Black, Latino and AAPI Achievements in December, Foxx described having a near-death experience and admitted he had temporarily lost the ability to walk afterwards.

“I want to thank everybody. I’ve been through something. I’ve been through some things. You know, it’s crazy, I couldn’t do that six months ago. I couldn’t actually walk,” he said, holding back tears.

He added: “It feels good to be here. I cherish every single minute now. It’s different. I wouldn’t wish what I went through on my worst enemy ’cause it’s tough when you almost… when it’s almost over, when you see the tunnel.

“I saw the tunnel. I didn’t see the light! It was hot in that tunnel so I didn’t know where I was going. ‘Shit, am I going to the right place?’”

“I seen the devil going, ‘C’mon, now,’” he joked. “Black people, when we almost die or go through something like that, there’s two phrases, one of two phrases we say. One is, ‘Lord, have mercy, Jesus. Lord, have mercy, Jesus.’

“I want to say six months ago I couldn’t fathom that this could happen or that I would be here, but as I walk up here to this microphone and get this Vanguard Award, all I can say is ‘Lord, have mercy, Jesus.’”
