Later that day, Ja Rule put his name forward as Tiger’s successor by showing off his golfing ability. The rapper posted two videos on X (formerly Twitter) — one of him using a driver and another on the putting green.

“Hey Nike if y’all looking for your new golf sponsorship look no further… Exit Tiger Woods Enter Tiger Hood…” he wrote.

Tiger Woods announced his departure from Nike in a social media post, reflecting on his long and successful journey with the sportswear giant.

“Over 27 years ago, I was fortunate enough to start a partnership with one of the most iconic brands in the world,” he said in a statement. “The days since have been filled with so many amazing moments and memories.

“Phil Knight’s passion and vision brought this Nike and Nike Golf partnership together and I personally want to thank him, along with the other Nike employees and incredible athletes I have had the pleasure of working with along the way.”

He added: “People will ask if there is another chapter. Yes, there will certainly be another chapter.”

Tiger Woods began his partnership with Nike when he was just 20 years old, going on to become one of the most famous sportspeople in the world with 15 majors under his belt.

The move comes as Nike looks to cut $2 billion in costs in the coming years, according to The Guardian, scaling down its investment in the sport having stopped making golf equipment in 2016.
