J-Kwon‘s two Grammy nominations, both attached to Shaboozey’s smash hit “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” have been taken away, and the St. Louis rapper will now just receive a certificate if the song triumphs.
Caught by Billboardover the weekend, the change was actually made last Thursday (December 12).

Shaboozey’s track is nominated for both Song of the Year and Best Country Song. J-Kwon’s 2004 hit “Tipsy” is interpolated in Shaboozey’s record-setting song. When noms were first announced, the three writers of J-Kwon’s hit “Tipsy,” including J-Kwon himself, were listed as nominees alongside Shaboozey and “Bar Song” producers and co-writers Nevin Sastry and Sean Cook.
However, last week, the Grammys removed the “Tipsy” writers from the list of nominees. This is because the Grammys have a rule that the “publisher & songwriter(s) of sampled or interpolated material” are only eligible for certificates, not awards.
