J. Cole Addresses Kendrick Lamar Joint Project & Announces Forthcoming Material On “Black Friday”

    J. Cole rhymes about two potential projects on “Black Friday,” his reworking of Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright” that was released yesterday (November 27), on Black Friday.

“When you and K. Dot shit dropping?” J. Cole raps on the track. “Bitch never / They can’t handle two Black niggas this cleva / But this February, bet shit get scary / When I fuck around and drop.”

Then a beep is heard, ending the cut.

The North Carolina rapper and the TDE rapper have been rumored to have a joint project in the works, but J. Cole’s “Black Friday” lyrics appear to quell that notion.

Nonetheless, Kendrick Lamar released “Black Friday (A Tale Of 2 Citiez Remix),” a reworking of J. Cole’s “A Tale Of 2 Citiez,” yesterday.

      1. Don’t u think that was his way of saying there collab is dropping in feburary. And Kendrick’s sister twitted something bout it to, it would of been cool if u included that or maybe looked at the lyrics from Kendrick’s song to see if he hinted at anything in there to.

    1. I was really looking forward to that album coming. But it’s not a bad thing, it just means they both grinding and building they own brand. Hope to hear more of them working together though. #coleworld

    2. why make an article about what we heard on the song, with out further explanation on it? wtf DX. im assuming Cole dropping another project in Feb

    3. Ahh.. J. Cole, a college educated suburbanite who is down with the struggle.. Tired of this lame…………………. @un.D.niable

      1. Ya dumb ass must not listen I his music. His struggle probably was harder then yours… People kill me by knocking Niggas that went to college.

    4. I’ll believe it when I see it. People have been claiming that these two would drop a joint project for years now. FOH.

    5. Soren Baker, this is garbage journalism. You must have taken all of two minutes to develop a headline and your narrative after hearing J. Cole’s Black Friday. This article is worthless. You insult your audience and the reader with your mundane offering. One would interpret from the headline an interview was conducted with the artist as to expound upon what was heard and stated in the song. You intentionally mislead your readers with a hyped up headline to get them to read this flop. What you wrote was nothing more than what was stated by the artist in the song. How have educated, enlightened or informed the reader? Where is your journalistic integrity? This is a most disturbing trend noticed amongst your colleagues and the staff at HipHop DX. Indoctrinate yourselves by revisiting and reviewing Journalism 101 and get these off the street, middle school writers off your staff. Way too many misinforming, non proofread submissions from your team within in the last year and half. Your writing staff appears desperate. They lack integrity, facts and the ability to challenge the reader. For all your accolades, everyone at HHDX should be ashamed to have their name attached to such fodder. Such a sad state of affairs at the HHDX water cooler.

PLEASE STEP UP YOUR JOURNALISM GAME, HHDX.

      1. FlashFixter, you raise some interesting points. How “One would interpret” information is not my responsibility as a journalist. My responsibility as a journalist is to present the facts, which I did. J. Cole addressed the things I said he did on “Black Friday.” I did not mislead anyone with the headline. You brought your own assumptions to the article before you read it, which is not my responsibility.

I wrote the article because some people may not have heard the song(s) before they happened to see/read my article. Thus, is it newsworthy, which is why I wrote the article. That is also educating, enlightening and informing the reader, something you claim I did not do. If someone didn’t know the information I covered, which is possible, then I did what you charged me with not doing.

You cannot head into something assuming that everyone has done exactly what you’ve done and/or experienced when you begin reading an article.

Thank you for reading and for writing. I appreciate it. I hope all is well.

      2. Bravo. Excellent response, Mr. Baker. Way to stand by your article and support the points within your work. Thank you for taking to time to reply and justify your piece. I truly appreciate it. All is well. Hope it is the same for you.
