Last month, rapper Kanye West held a benefit concert at the Chicago Theatre for his Kanye West Foundation, an organization that provides funding for local high school music programs. Tapped as the “Stay In School” S.H.O.W. (Students Helping Our World), the performance was West’s first show in his hometown in almost a year, as well as the latest concert held by the KWF and Loop Dreams, which was founded by West’s late mother and Chicago University professor Donda West.
As a testament to West’s commitment to sharing his vision through music, nearly 3,000 Chicago public school students were allowed to attend a pre-show performance session, where ‘Ye also lent inspiring words about the importance of education. Hand-picked by the KWF, students given a ticket to attend the pre-show concert were all ones who had gained improved marks on their grades and/or attendance for the last quarter of this past academic year.
The event, which featured performances from West’s latest album 808’s & Heartbreaks [click to read], will make its television debut on Fuse TV this Saturday at 8 p.m. (ET).
