In preparation for this month’s release, Back On My B.S., Hip Hop veteran Busta Rhymes [click to read] has announced a free show, in conjunction with MySpace Music, set for this coming Monday, in his New York backyard. Set at Santos Party House on Lafayette Street, Busta will be joined by deejays Funkmaster Flex and Diamond Kuts on May 18. The show is free, first come, first served. Doors open at nine o’clock pm.
In other news, La Coka Nostra and Special Teamz member Slaine has a busy summer ahead. The Boston-based emcee will be appearing on Rock The Bells [click to read], with his crew, by way of House of Pain‘s role in the bill. He is also gearing up for a retail release of his The White Man Is The Devil self-released album, now coming again more formally through Traffic Entertainment.
Yesterday, Slaine told HipHopDX about this release and reaching the masses accordingly. “The White Man is the Devil Volume 1 is a collection of songs and verses recorded from 2002-2004. It is the first full length CD that I ever put together, and was a direct reflection of what was going on in my world, and inside my head at the time. There is nothing on the CD recorded with the intention of shocking people, despite what some critics would later say, and there was no marketing plan or real budget. Originally, it was pressed up in a slimline case and sold in Boston hand-to-hand. I gave a grip to every drug dealer I knew and basically any kid that wanted to take a stack to hustle. It kind of snowballed from there, and before I knew it I was hitting about 15 different people off with a bunch of copies to sell every week. Eventually it managed to circulate worldwide as I started touring, with no distribution or retail stores.“

Unlike many hand-to-hand releases, Slaine found a lot of success and subsequent income from the controversially-titled release.“To date, I moved about 12,000 of them. This version is the music as it was recorded in its original form, and repackaged for worldwide distribution, so that those who could not get their hands on a copy previously have better access to it. It is dope to have real distribution for it years later, because it was what started my career. I’m looking forward to a big year with the La Coka album coming out July 14th, a new Special Teamz album in the works, and my first official solo album coming out at the end of the year.”
La Coka Nostra is signed to Suburban Noize Records, while Special Teamz‘ last album, Stereotypez [click to read], was through Duck Down Records.
