On a special episode of BET’s 106 & Park that aired yesterday, May 12 the nominees and performers for the 2009 BET Awards [click to read] were announced.
Leading the nominations are Beyonce and Atlanta rapper TI who is nominated for the following categories: Best Male Hip Hop Artist, Best Collaboration, Video Of The Year, and Viewer’s Choice.
Lil Wayne, Rick Ross[click to read], Kanye West, and Young Jeezy were also nominated for Best Male Hip Hop Artist while M.I.A., Lil Mama, and Trina are nominated for Best Female Hip Hop Artist.
Other notable nominees include Lil Wayne with four nominations and BET Awards newcomer Ryan Leslie[click to read] with two.
“I’m really just overwhelmed you know,” Ryan Leslie shared with HipHopDX regarding his nominations for Best New Artist and Best Male Artist R&B. “It’s crazy…I’m floored honestly. Overwhelmed. Honored. Humbled. Grateful. All the words that could be associated when your hard work and dedication, your passion are recognized.”

Aside from revealing the nominees and performers for the awards show, it was also revealed that singer/actor Jamie Foxx will be hosting.
“That’s a nice pick,” Soulja Boy told HipHopDX. “[I] just recently met Jamie a couple of days ago…he’s a real cool dude. I’m working with him on this upcoming album. So that’s a good choice.”
Already scheduled to perform at the awards show are Ne-Yo and Maxwell. More performers will be announced in the near future.
The BET Awards will air live from Los Angeles on June 28.
