As one of New York’s most prized independent rappers, Skyzoo [click to read] has built a following across the nation through mixtapes like Corner Store Classic [click to listen] and most recently The Power of Words [click to listen]. With plans to release his debut album, The Salvation, later this year, the Brooklyn emcee has finally found a label home in Duck DownRecords.
Excited to be the new addition to a label that boasts such acts as Kidz in the Hall [click to read] and Heltah Skeltah [click to read], Sky expressed his intentions to keep their legacy going. “Duck Down has always held the flag for dope music – raw Hip Hop in its purest sense, and I’m glad to be contributing to that,” he said in a press statement.
Speaking on his album, Skyzoo made it clear that fans can expect some of his best work yet. “Whenever people get my mixtapes, they always tell me I’m giving away so much incredible music that’s worth paying for. In response, I tell them, ‘this is just the stuff I’m giving out for free, so imagine what I make for my major debut. Imagine what I make you pay $15 for.’” Adding Sky, “I don’t think there has been a debut album this cohesive and cinematic in years.”
With production from 9th Wonder [click to read], DJ Premier, and Illmind, The Salvation is tentatively scheduled for release on August 11th through Jamla/Duck Down Records.
