It’s been awhile since fans have heard from Champ of Move.meant. After releasing The Scope of Things to Come, little was heard from the group. Last year, HipHopDX spoke to Champ about a project he was working on, a remix album featuring samples of White Stripes songs, and now, it’s finally out. Currently going under Adrian Champion, the emcee has a lot to say to fans. He took time off of his new work to chop it up with HipHopDX about his future.

On Stars & Stripes, his new mixtape:

Basically, I took samples from The White Stripes and produced remixes of classic Hip Hop songs and emcees. Plus, I did a new cut to one of the tracks featuring a new singer/songwriter I’m working with, Brian Jacobs. It came out really fresh.

He continued, “Stars & Stripes is really just a side project. I’ve actually moved away from sampling for creative and business reasons, so it didn’t make sense to basically do a whole album using these instrumentals. Plus, the whole theme was ‘Stars & Stripes,’ so I had to put some of the greats on there. I just rapped on one tracks so folks wouldn’t forget that I’m an emcee first and foremost.”

On The White Stripes‘ reaction: “I haven’t heard from them yet, but we just dropped it [recently]. So, who knows. I hope they appreciate what I was trying to do, I’m a huge fan.

On going out as a solo artist:

My new stuff is all self-produced, I’m playing guitar and writing all original music. It’s still Hip Hop, but definitely an evolution for me. I’ll begin to leak new music from that in the next few months.

He also added that he is currently working with Brian Jacobs and to expect more from them in the near future.
