Dr. Dre Is Being Sued

Several Detroit officials have slapped a lawsuit on Dr. Dre for invasion of privacy. The suit concerns the Up In Smoke DVD that was released last spring, it alleges that “a hidden camera and microphones were secretly used to intercept, eavesdrop upon, and record’ exchanges between city officials and tour organizers.

Defendants include Up In Smoke Tour headliner Dr. Dre, Magic Johnson (company helped produce the tour), AOL Time Warner, (distributed and marketed the DVD) Best Buy (sold the DVD), Panavision (provided cameras for the concert staff), and me (I bought it). That last one isn’t true.

Apparently, there is a bonus track on the DVD that features footage of city officials and such having a private conversation in a room in the Joe Louis Arena. It was in Detroit where they kept Dre from showing certain videos throughout the show because of their content. He subsequently sued them and settled out of court. I haven’t checked yet but if anyone knows how to access this bonus track let me know at J2T3R@hiphopdx.com.
