Artists like Immortal Technique and M-1 of dead prez are known as what some call “conscious emcees,” tagged with the perception that they are all about humanitarian work. While they may not like to be boxed into perceived roles musically, they are certainly living up to their reputation in some positive ways. In an effort to raise money for Gaza relief, Tech, M-1 and others are set to perform and appear at a fundraiser this weekend.

Hands Off Gaza will be held on January 18. Immortal Technique, G.O.D., M-1 of dead prez, A-Alikes, Rebel Diaz, Remi Kanazi, Tahani Salah, Khalil al Mustafa, Hasan Salaam, Marcel Cartier, Sabreena Da Witch, and DJ Johnny Juice (Public Enemy) are all set to appear at the fundraiser held at New York’s Alwan for the Arts. It will take place from 5 – 7 p.m.

That isn’t all that is going on that evening. DJ Unconquer’d, Rebel Diaz, DJ K-Salaam, Remi Kanazi, Koba, Queen Godis, Sabreena Da Witch, DJ Oja, and Donny Goines are all set to perform at another event, I Heart Gaza. This event will go on from 9 p.m. – 4 a.m.

Donations of $20 – 30 are suggested for these events. The collective stated their combined efforts are “in the spirit of Martin Luther King weekend,” via a press release. By doing so, they hope to support a cause that will help lessen the violation of human rights in Gaza.

All of proceeds will be donated to Map UK and Anera.org for relief efforts. There will also be a freedom march that will end in Brooklyn, and they say no one will be turned away or rejected from entering the events.
