Black Rob, who signed with Bad Boy back in the late nineties at the height of their popularity, saw his debut album Life Story as sign of the good things to come. Now nine years later after a list of medical and legal problems, Black Rob is currently incarcerated and out of touch with his former colleagues.
“I’m cool with Diddy,” the “Whoa” [click to read] creator tells XXLmag.com. “I wish him the best of luck with what he’s doing…but I haven’t heard from anybody. I don’t wanna get too crazy with this interview, I mean I haven’t heard from anybody but I don’t feel like it’s no bad blood or nothing like that.”
Black Rob also explained he is uncertain of his contract status with Bad Boy Records saying, “Man I have no idea. I haven’t heard from these dudes, they might’ve took me off the Bad Boy Web site or whatever, but I haven’t heard from anyone telling me what the deal is. So until I get a piece of paper saying that I’m no longer a Bad Boy artist, I’m still reppin’ that flag.”
Another label that has changed drastically since the nineties is Suge Knight‘s formerly famed Death Row Records. Many prized possessions are being auctioned off this week [click to read], as the label filed for bankruptcy last year. The items include Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre‘s actual Source Awards, Tupac collectibles, framed gold and platinum records, along with the physical Death Row Records electric chair and 300,000 sealed CDs. The collectible items, which appear to be a dream for Hip Hop enthusiasts, are lacking bidders due to the nefarious reputation of the item’s former owner, Suge Knight.
