Last night Travis Barker and DJ AM were critically injured when their plane crashed killing four others.
A spokesperson for the FAA, Kathleen Bergen, said the plane, a Lear jet, attempted to take off shortly before midnight, (Friday Sept. 19, 2008) from Columbia, S.C., en route to Van Nuys, Calif., when the air traffic controller reported seeing sparks coming from the plane. The plane then went off the runway and crashed on a highway embankment, catching fire.
Both DJ AM, real name Adam Michael Goldstein, and Travis Barker were taken to Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, Ga. Both men are in critical but stable condition. According to TMZ.com, Barker and DJ AM saved their own lives by jumping out of the door of the burning plane when the plane came to a halt. Unfortunately four others, including the pilot, co-pilot and Barker‘s assistant, Chris Baker, died in the flames.
DJ AM is best known for his mash-up mixes. Barker, former drummer for Blink 182, has collaborated with several Hip Hop acts, including The Game, on his album L.A.X., a remix for Soulja Boy’s “Crank That” and Busta Rhymes‘ “Don’t Touch Me,” as well as an ownership role in Famous Stars & Straps Clothing.
More recently, DJ AM and Travis Barker have formed the group TRV$DJ-AM, and have been performing around the country. They recently released the mash-up mixtape called “Fix Your Face”, which you can listen to here: Fix Your Face Mixtape
HipHopDX‘s condolences go out to the people that passed in the flight and for Travis and AM to have a speedy recovery.
