You have undoubtedly heard Keri Hilson already. She has been featured on many songs including tracks by Timbaland and most recently Nas. She’s written for and worked with a slew of superstars including Britney Spears, Usher and Diddy. Now, the singer/song writer is out to make her own voice known with her debut album, In a Perfect World.

Her first single, “Energy,” is already on its way. The video has a very strong boxing theme.

“Women, we’re such hopeless romantics, and we want every man to be Mr. Right,” she told MTV of the track. “This song goes from good love to bad love. You know, you kind of get drained of your energy after a while. You’ve become spent when it doesn’t work out with the person you’re in love with or you’re in a relationship with someone who doesn’t do the things you do for them.”

“Basically, I play a female boxer who’s in a relationship. I spar with my boyfriend at times. It starts really, really good, and as the video plays out, you see how much energy I put into this relationship or how little is reciprocated back to me.”

Her debut is titled In a Perfect World. Why the title?

“It’s my way of saying nothing in the world is perfect and no person in it is either,” she added.

With all of the acts she has already helped throughout her career, it’s likely many will appear on the album. Two high profile guests are already on board. Justin Timberlake and Timbaland have hit the lab with the Keri and their work is coming along well, according to her.

“When we get in the studio, we do what we want when we want, and that’s just the kind of attitude that I take. You’ll hear just how fun it is or how free it is to take that approach to music.”

The album, In a Perfect World is set to be released September 23. A finalized list of featured guests should be out soon and we’ll keep you posted. For now, catch Hilson on Nas‘ single “Hero” and in Usher‘s video for “In this Club.”
