The OZONE Award nominees have been recently announced, with each category looking chalk-full of talent and swagger.

Leading the pack (as would be expected) is Lil Wayne with eight nominations. Though his album Tha Carter III [click to read] didn’t release in time for a Best Rap Album nod, he is still comfortably positioned in categories such as Best Lyricist, Best Rap Group (alongside Birdman), and TJ’s DJ’s Hustler award.

Collectively, southern pioneers UGK garnered a total of six nominations. While Bun B [click to read] joins a select few on the Best Rap Artist and Best Lyricist lists, the late-Pimp C finds his presence uniquely integrated with his own award category. Titled the Pimp C Award, his categories nominees exemplify a “trill” aspect to the Hip Hop scene, as well as a creative approach to rapping. Among the “trillest rapper” nominees is Kanye West, Lil Wayne and Killer Mike.

One of the most competitive categories looks to be the Best Producer Award. With nominees DJ Toomp [click to read], Drumma Boy, The Runners, Polow Da Don, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League and DJ Montay, the award is clearly up for grabs in a past year that saw all of these producers gain success after success.
