Hong Kong’s established and upcoming hip hop artists came together for the recently concluded WhatsGood Music Awards last August 6, its inaugural edition and the first of its kind. Over 30 awards were up for grabs, with some awards open for public voting.
One of the night’s biggest winners was Hong Kong born-and-raised Filipino rapper Jiggie Boy or JB, who took home seven of 36 titles including Artist of the Year, Best Male Artist, Best Live Performer, Best Hip Hop Artist by KKBOX, and more. The rapper also performed live during the show.
Another big winner was TXMIYAMA, a Hong Kong-raised Japanese rapper known for his experiences as a third culture kid as well as his commentary on social issues. He bagged two awards, including Best Hip Hop Artist by HipHopDX Asia and the Gold award for Best Song in a Foreign Language for “Hollywood Road.”
Other artists who brought home multiple laurels from that night include KIRI T, who won Best Female Artist, Best Song in a Foreign Language (Bronze), and Matt Force who bagged three awards, including Song of the Year.
