While fans are enjoying his second studio album, Wasteland, Brent Faiyaz already has another project titled Make It Out Alive in the tuck, and he’s laying out the plans for it.
There was a time when fans believed Wasteland would be released under the title Make It Out Alive since Brent teased that name for a while, but that wasn’t the case. During a recent conversation with Complex, Brent Faiyaz explained there wasn’t a name change; instead, Wasteland became its own thing, leading to the album fans have today. However, the Maryland singer still wants to put out Make It Out Alive.
“I still have a project I want to put out called Make It Out Alive,” Brent said during the conversation. “That’s still in the works—it’s just not this one, because I love the title Wasteland and I love what it represents.”

He continued, “I have an idea in my head of what I want Make It Out Alive to be, but all of the songs that I have been making up until this point didn’t fit that title. I wasn’t in the headspace to put that body of work out.”

Wasteland was released on July 8, 2022, and features Drake, Alicia Keys, Tyler, the Creator, The Neptunes and more. The album debuted at No. 2 on the 200 chart, moving 88,000 album-equivalent units under Latin music superstar Bad Bunny, who retook the No. 1 spot with his album Un Verano Sin Ti that moved an insane 105,000 copies.

Brent Faiyaz recently spoke to Vogue about the process behind Wasteland and how he didn’t intend on making an album at first. He also explained how different films served as inspiration for Wasteland, including movies by Quentin Tarantino.

“It was less of an album process and more of a life process,” he began. “I just made a collection of songs and tied a story line together once I saw that they all kind of shared a similar theme. I didn’t really realize I was working on an album until I was maybe a little over halfway through. Then I realized, wait a minute, this is a body of work.”

He continued, “I was watching a lot of Tarantino films. I was watching Jackie Brown over and over again. I was also watching Vanilla Sky on repeat. I pulled a lot from that. But mostly I was inspired by the different people that I locked in with, from The Dream to Alicia Keys. I was just soaking up game from artists like Raphael Saadiq and No I.D., who have been doing this longer than I have.”
