A new documentary titled This Is The Life is exploring the racial, social and musical implications of South Central Los Angeles’ famed ’90s Hip Hop venue The Good Life. Directed and produced by Ava Du Vernay, the work has currently been traveling through film festivals, and already winning some impressive awards and reviews.
This Is The Life was an official selection in last month’s Black Lily Film Festival, as well as “best documentary” at Los Angeles’ Pan African Film Festival. In July, the film will be entered at festivals in Atlanta, Los Angeles and Martha’s Vinyard. In September, This Is The Life will screen at New York’s Urbanworld Film Festival, sponsored by BET. The film features interviews with various members of Freestyle Fellowship [click to read], Project Blowed, as well as Busdriver, Cut Chemist and Chali 2na.
