Kendrick Lamar made his long-awaited return on Friday (May 13) with his Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers album.
A myriad of producers contributed to the project, including the legendary Pharrell. Skateboard P took to Instagram to show a clip of him jamming out to Kendrick and Tanna Leone’s album standout, “Mr. Morale,” which he solely produced.
“This is how it felt to make MR. MORALE with @kendricklamar and @tanna.duh. MR. MORALE & THE BIG STEPPERS out now,” he captioned the post on Friday.
“I’m back,” he said before marveling at some of K. Dot’s lyrical brilliance. “I must’ve had 3000 lives and 3000 wives — are y’all listening to the shit this muthafucka’s saying?”
The clip drew heaps of praise from Pharrell’s followers as industry heavyweights like Big Sean, Busta Rhymes, Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Snoh Aalegra and more gave the track their stamp of approval.
Pharrell also asked followers to drop their favorite bars from “Mr. Morale” into the comment section. Skateboard P and Kung Fu Kenny have linked up on occasions in the past, including the 2015 To Pimp A Butterfly anthem, “Alright.”
Kendrick Lamar’s comeback album is expected to top 400,000 total album-equivalent units in first-week sales. It’s possibly his most candid work to date as he touches on some of his past trauma and breaking generational curses.
Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers serves as a double-album of sorts with nine tracks on each side. The ret of the project features guest appearances from Ghostface Killah, Kodak Black, Baby Keem, Blxst, Summer Walker and more.

This album is pure trash and I’m a big fan his last two albums now I can’t get with
I’m not gonna lie @ peso I tried my hardest to justify this album, I been waiting 5 years for this moment but I had to just face the facts, this album is trash
Maybe you should take the wax out off ya ears
Big Fan… are you a fan of the man or just what he put out previously and the personal memories crafted for yourself or both? You know what they say about ‘expectations’…. I’m wondering what did you (and many who have this shared sentiment) ‘expect’? Was it the music? Was it the lyrics? Just calling it “pure trash” is a incomplete thought. Please explain further.
I think it might be a bit too much for many sensibilities. In retrospect, many folks don’t want to deal with themselves. It’s been a rough few seasons for everybody in varied ways for everybody and folks want to just knock they heads to hard beats and shake their asses back to a ‘normal’ sleep. THIS project aint for that. In a time where feeding the algo matrix and escapism is at an all time high, he’s challenging us to take a moment and really take stock in who/what/where we are in the timelines and LISTEN. Some sh*t we can’t dance and boogie out way out of. Some things we cannot ‘expect’ to level up without stripping some real sh*t down to ground level. Some of those levels are dark more often than not. Some beats are seemingly tuned down (as in energy and hype) for the sake of the words. I think the music on this project is well crafted and more soundtrack and movie score laden.
Also, from Section 8.0 until now, this is indeed par the course of his personal maturation within his chosen Art. He chose himself first by shedding some tough truths and ultimate growth as a person and as a ARTIST (a word that’s used way too loosely in the game quite frankly as there’s TOO MANY who are anything but artists’) then us… the fans. I respect/salute that shift.
Music is suppose to entertain, edutain and not just detain the senses. It truly is a Art form that is really a portal.
I would challenge folks to try and step back a few times and then revisit it in a few suns and moons. Maybe pick a song out one at a time periodically. Pay attention to what comforts or discomforts arise. If you still don’t like it after, then that’s your prerogative. Just make sure as you express your disdain….make sure you’re not yukking someone’s yum ya dig.
Well said.
The album is fire but the track produced by pharrell “Mr Morale” is the worst is the album.
why people hyping this ulbum?
His tracks sound better with Chad Hugo(The Neptunes), the tracks are missing simething just like the work he just did on Pusha T’s album.
great track – clowns buggin as usual. Gonna be everywhere this summer
