Hip Hop star and Haitian native Wycle Jean has announced that he will be helping launch Together For Haiti (Kombit Pou Ayiti), a program dedicated to providing food an jobs in the wake of Haiti’s current food crisis.
The partnership is a group effort by Wyclef’s own Yele Haiti, the World Food Programme and the Pan American Development Foundation. The program will also receive help from a number of non-governmental organizations and community groups.
Wyclef will be announcing the Together For Haiti in a press conference in New York today.
The food crisis in Haiti has become critical, as the cost of food has climbed 53% since last year, according to the United Nations. For Haiti, which imports almost 80% of its rice, this is a major issue, as it cannot grow enough food to feed its population due to deforestation.

Together For Haiti will try to help the situation by working with agricultural organization to repair damaged soil, in hopes that new vegetation could be grown.
