Philadelphia’s police Commissioner Charles Ramsey said Monday in a public statement that four officers will be fired and four others harshly disciplined for their roles in the videotaped beatings of three shooting suspects.

According to Ramsey, after reviewing frames from enhanced tape of the video, another eight officers who were involved in the incident to lesser degrees will undergo additional training on the department’s policies concerning the use of force.

The video, captured by WTXF-TV, shows the three suspects being pulled from their car on the side of the road and subsequently beaten, kicked, and punched by a total of 19 officers — 18 city police and one transit officer. Two of the officers being fired are new to the force and will be terminated immediately, Ramsey said. Two others are being suspended without pay for 30 days with intent to dismiss after. Three other officers are being suspended and one sergeant is being demoted.

A criminal investigation is still continuing.
