Detroit, MI

Concerts are a way for rappers to get their music out and perform for their beloved fans. But sometimes people are just not spending their money to watch someone take the stage.

Smokepurrp was hit with that reality check over the weekend when footage of his recent show in Detroit, Michigan, on April 16 surfaced online. In the video, Purrp is performing, and it looks like a regular show until the camera turns around to tell a different story.

Behind the group of people at the front of the stage was nothing but space all the way to the back of the venue. It wasn’t a good look for the once-beloved SoundCloud rapper, and fans were quick to drag him on social media for the lackluster turnout.

One of the jokes that seemed to be making rounds rather quickly is Smokepurrp saying Kanye West owes him $9 million. People were joking about the reason why Purrp needed the money so suddenly, especially after the lack of a crowd at his Detroit show.

Last week, the Florida native took to social media saying Ye still owes him $9 million. Kanye could possibly still owe him, but Purrp didn’t really make it clear why he deserves that $9 million.

Although Smokepurpp didn’t say exactly what the problem was, fans think it was regarding his writing credit on Kanye and Lil Pump’s “I Love It” hit record. The “Audi” rapper explained during an interview with No Jumper in 2019 that he actually wrote “I Love It” with Lil Pump on his 18th birthday.

“The ‘I Love It’ shit. I wrote that shit,” he said. “Basically, it was on Pump’s birthday. Basically this nigga [Kanye West] just called Pump, blah, blah, blah. He wanted to make a song about this and I just wrote the song. And it randomly just came out. And he’s like, ‘Yo, the shit you wrote came out.'”
