When Kanye West abruptly dropped out of Coachella just weeks out from the festival, organizers were left scrambling to find a Sunday headliner. Coachella announced on Wednesday (April 6) that The Weeknd would be replacing Ye as a headliner alongside Swedish House Mafia.

West was slated to headline night three on April 17 and April 24 in the California desert. “Kanye is backing out because he wants to stay out of the public eye after all the drama with Kim and Pete, he wants to get help,” a source told Page Six earlier this week.

The Weeknd’s insertion comes ahead of him heading out on his After Hours Til Dawn Tour, which kicks off north of the border in Toronto on July 6. Other headliners on the bill remain as Billie Eilish and Harry Styles. Sunday (April 17/April 24) still has a dose of Hip Hop with Doja Cat, Vince Staples, JID, Denzel Curry and more slated to perform.

Kanye fans out of luck could still get their Donda fix with The Weeknd possibly adding “Hurricane” to his setlist. The Lil Baby-assisted record won Best Melodic Rap Performance honors at the 2022 Grammy Awards. Ye also took home Best Rap Song for “JAIL” with JAY-Z.

Kanye West Pulls Out Of Coachella 2022

Kanye West hasn’t provided any explanation for bailing on Coachella and has laid relatively low and out of the spotlight since his Instagram suspension in March. Instead of attending the Grammy Awards, Kanye and girlfriend Chaney Jones paid a visit to his family to surprise his cousin’s grandma for her 85th birthday party.
