Kokane is most known for crooning the Parliament-inspired chorus on Dr. Dre‘s “Let Me Ride.” The longtime Above The Law affiliate has been signed to Ruthless Records, Doggystyle Records and was reportedly courted by G-Unit, where he appeared on Tony Yayo‘s album.
Titled High Powered, Kokane‘s first disc in two years features appearances from Young Buck, Daz Dillinger, Teena Marie and Charlie Wilson of Gap Band fame. “I am passionate about this new project. This is a new vibe, reminiscent of that Motown 25 type music,” said Kokane of the project, planned for summer 2008 release.
The artist, who first released albums dating back to 1994’s Funk Upon A Rhyme, a project executive produced by Eazy E, added, “High Powered shows my growth over the last couple of years, but it also gives
my fans the true Kokane they’ve gotten high on for years and yes, I
keep it funky for the streets, because that’s where I come from.“
With Koch distribution, the release will come on High Powered Entertainment, which previously released albums from Tha Outlawz, Jayo Felony and Daz Dillinger.
