In the wake of recent comments from TheRoots’ drummer, producer and band-leader ?uestlove that Def Jam has not given them the proper marketing and promotion considerations [click to read], fans and artists have taken it upon themselves to honor the Philadelphia Hip Hop band upon releasing their Rising Down album [click to read].

Chicago-based blog RubyHornet.com [click to read] sought the opinions of artists and fans to share their favorite Roots song, video or simply pay homage to the group. Among those who contributed, Kidz In The Hall‘s Naledge, Souls of Mischief‘s Opio and rising star Mickey Factz all shared.

Rhymefest said, “My favorite Roots song has to be ‘Silent Treatment’ because it so
accurately describes the dynamic of what a man wants and what a woman
deserves.
” Meanwhile, Justus League affiliate Chaundon added, “‘You Got Me…This is the jawn of all jawns! Thought painted such a
vivid picture, I saw the video before the director yelled, ‘Action!’ The
music was incredible. [That song] is the definition of a marriage
between the beat and the rhyme. But I must say ’75 Bars’ is my second
favorite video. One of the meanest videos out if not the meanest video
out!!! The track is violent and Thought went in [saying], ‘I’m in the field
with a shield and a spear nigga, I’m in your girl with her heels in the
air nigga.’ Damn.
