As Lizzo’s own Amazon Prime reality TV series inches closer to release, she sat down with People on Wednesday (March 2) to discuss her status as a “body icon” and how her reign of body positivity ultimately led her to this moment.

“I think I have a really hot body!” she said. ” I’m a body icon, and I’m embracing that more and more every day. It may not be one person’s ideal body type just like, say, Kim Kardashian might not be someone’s ideal, but she’s a body icon and has created a modern-day beauty standard.

“And what I’m doing is stepping into my confidence and my power to create my own beauty standard. And one day that will just be the standard.”

The extensive sit-down with People comes as Watch Out for the Big Grrrls plans to drop on March 25.  The eight-episode series focuses on Lizzo as she hunts down confident and talented women to become a part of her Big Grrrls touring squad. Ten promising contestants move into the Big Grrrls House where they must demonstrate their talents and prove they have the chops to join Lizzo on her world tour in May.

To aid in this search, the “Truth Hurts” singer is bringing along the legendary choreographer Tanisha Scott and Big Grrrls members Chawnta’ Marie Van, Shirlene Quigley and Grace Holden. Also joining in the odyssey is movement expert Rashida KhanBey Miller and Grammy-nominated R&B singer SZA.
