Are you ready A’TIN?

PABLO, the Filipino rapper, singer, songwriter, producer, and leader of group SB19 makes his solo debut with “La Luna,” out today (January 28).

After teasing the public with a cryptic, untitled post last January 18 captioned “???”—the artist embarks on a brand-new journey as a soloist. The self-composed and self-produced single explores liberation from societal expectations, underlining the significance of self-acceptance and self-love.

“We all have flaws and we need to accept those imperfections because those are what make us who we are,” PABLO shares in a press statement, adding: “To be mentally healthy, we need to come to terms with ourselves, that what we feel is valid. We shouldn’t suppress it just so we can please everyone and avoid confrontation. There will always be black in white and white in black. We should maintain balance within us. That’s how we remain sane and alive.”

Its poignant thematic explorations are nothing new to fans of SB19. They know that PABLO’s creative direction has been a guiding force throughout the group’s music and the country’s contemporary pop landscape. To deliver upon its premise, the track aims for a more cinematic scale in production and is packed with hip-hop inspired drums, choral harmonies and layered percussion.

“I always like the cinematic feeling the music scoring brings upon movie scenes. It amplifies the emotion that is currently being portrayed,” PABLO says, “I decided to incorporate that in my music. I want it to be grand and full to bring out the intensity of the song’s emotion.”

PABLO also shared that his decision to release “La Luna” was a way for him to process his personal struggles with music acting as a conduit for his unfiltered emotions. “Its focus is mostly about myself, my feelings, my beliefs, how I view the world and how it affects me,” he says.
