Mississippi rapper Yungen Gunnin was convicted of second-degree murder and felony possession of a weapon on December 16 by Judge Kathy Johnson in Catahoula Parish, Louisiana. Gunnin — born Jordan Johnson — was originally arrested on December 15, 2018 for the murder of 23-year-old Da’John Mitchell.
The shooting reportedly took place at 1 a.m. on December 15, 2018 when Yungen Gunnin was performing at Jonesville, Louisiana nightclub Suga Shak.
According to Magnolia State Live, District Attorney Brad Burget believes Mitchell bumped into a member of Yungin Gunnin’s entourage while he was performing on stage and then the shootout ensued. Yungen Gunnin reportedly whipped out a .380 pistol and fired several shots that struck Mitchell and sent him to the floor.
Deputies from multiple departments along with detectives and special op forces worked together to arrest the 23-year-old rapper hours later at his Natchez, Mississippi residence in the Holiday Apartments after noticing his rental car traveling across the Mississippi River Bridge.

“It was a senseless crime,” Burget said. “Either because Mr. Mitchell bumped Johnson or because of Mr. Johnson’s vanity he decided to shoot. There is no justification to take someone’s life over purported or perceived insults.”
Authorities had reason to believe that Yungen Gunnin had gang affiliations and he previously pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated assault for his role in a 2014 shooting.
