Earlier today, HipHopDX reported a cease-and-desist letter was issued to MONSTA magazine owners Dave Mays and Ray “Benzino” Scott from Robert Lopez of Don Diva Magazine. Lopez claims that Scott and Mays using the name MONSTA is trademark infringement on the basis that Lopez has “MONSTA News” registered for his own Hip Hop newsletter. Scott and Mays would not sit idle and issued a statement to HipHopDX.
“The world has been waiting for another monthly magazine from ‘Zino and me for over two years. When we created MONSTA,”Dave Mays says. “We conducted the proper searches and found no one to be using the name. Along with our attorneys, we will be reviewing Robert Lopez’s allegations.”
Benzino figures that there is more to what Lopez is doing.
“This guy [Robert Lopez] is looking for publicity and should focus on selling more magazines,”Scott says. “Don Diva Magazine hasn’t been the same since writer and editor Cavarioh H left the publication for Hip Hop Weekly and MONSTA.”
HipHopDX will keep you posted on how this transpires
