Japanese four-piece group ATARASHII GAKKO! return with brand-new single, “Freaks,” featuring Indonesian rapper Warren Hue.

Known for their self-choreographed videos and songs about making the best out of mundane school life, “Freaks” is part-pop and part-hip hop that heavily samples 2020 house track “Freaks Don’t Fail Me Now” by Dirtybird Records label honcho Claude VonStroke.

ATARASHII GAKKO! shared a music video for the track, featuring Mizyu, Suzuka, Kanon, and Rin in their iconic Japanese uniforms having a skirmish with sumo wrestlers. Warren Hue makes an appearance and doubles down on embracing his inner “freak” by staying fresh with the best drip, while the group maintains that in the end, success is not determined by grades.

The track is the follow-up to ATARASHII GAKKO!’s “NAINAINAI,” which was released in January.

Earlier this month, the group shared the official choreography video for “Freaks.” This is also Warren Hue’s first feature of the year. He released sporadic singles in 2020 and put out a full-length album, SUGARTOWN, in 2019.

ATARASHII GAKKO! and Jakarata-based Warren Hue are 88rising’s latest signees, along with Filipina singer-actress Ylona Garcia.
