Rayi Putra On New Track ‘Lagi’ Ft. Laze: ‘I Hope That Hip Hop In Indonesia Can Be Less Niche’

Indonesia’s Rayi Putra navigates today’s relationships in latest track, “Lagi” (Again), featuring fellow Indonesian artist Laze via Def Jam Indonesia.

“This song tells the story of a boy or girl who feels that they have given almost everything—time, money, everything—for their lover but nothing seems to be enough. They always ask for more. I am sure many people can relate to this. The beat might not be mellow, but the theme itself is,” he said in a press statement.

Rayi Putra shared that he’s always wanted to collaborate with Laze, whom he’s known for a long time “but haven’t found the right beat.” The two co-wrote the song, while the production, mixing, and engineering was done overseas. He enlisted Marcc from Malaysia to produce the track. “When I heard the beat, I immediately liked it and was even more surprised when I found out that he was only 16 years old,” he quipped.

But more than the overt narrative of “Lagi,” Rayi Putra also has a “big mission” for it. “So far, in my opinion, Indonesians already know hip hop, but this genre still cannot be juxtaposed with pop music, especially. Through the song, I hope that hip hop in Indonesia can be less niche and more mainstream,” he explained.

The track also came with an accompanying visual featuring TV host/actress Enzy Storia and was directed by Gilbert March.
