There’s no doubt Drake is a ridiculously wealthy man. From his extravagant Toronto mansion with an NBA regulation-size indoor basketball court to luxurious private jets, he doesn’t have a problem flaunting it either. As noted in a recent post from Akademiks, he dropped six figures on a mattress — yep, a mattress.

The post claims Drake sleeps on a $400,000 mattress made of horsehair, stingray skin and compressed leather called the “Grand Vividus,” which takes approximately 600 hours to make. And as it turns out, Akademiks’ post isn’t just gossip.

“Grand Vividus changed the symbolism of what the word ‘mattress’ means,” Linus Adolfsson, founder of The Hastens Sleep Spa LA + New York, told Insiderin May 2020. “If your favorite object in your life is not your mattress, you are not sleeping on the right mattress.

“[Each individual] bed takes over 600 hours to [create and is] fully handmade. We jumped through hurdles to make sure that Drake had the first one ever produced. He’s currently sleeping on it and he loves it. He’s been quoted [as saying it’s like he’s] ‘floating’ while he’s sleeping.”

Designer Ferris Rafauli, who designed Drake’s expansive Toronto dwelling, teamed up with Hastens to help create the mattress. Rafauli’s acute eye for detail is likely what landed him the job for designing the 50,000 square-foot home.

In an April 2020 interview withArchitectural Digest, Rafauli revealed he took inspiration from the Beaux-Arts architectural style and sought a contemporary take on the Art Deco movement such as positioning a 20,000-piece Swarovski crystal chandelier in the great room and hanging a glass chandelier in the lounge from a backlit ceiling with panels swathed in Alcantara faux suede, a material routinely used in luxury and sports cars.

“Because I was building it in my hometown, I wanted the structure to stand firm for 100 years,” he explained to AD at the time. “I wanted it to have a monumental scale and feel. It will be one of the things I leave behind, so it had to be timeless and strong.”
