As the NFL season is chiseled down in the NFC between the Green Bay Packers and the New York Giants amidst an AFC showdown between the New England Patriots and San Diego Chargers, plans are readying for the famed Super Bowl halftime show.

Although Rock & Roll icons Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers are to perform the mid-game medley of hits, a slot filled by Prince and The Rolling Stones in 2007 and 2006 respectively, Hip Hop is a part of the gala in Phoenix. In the past, Nelly and Kid Rock have performed in this sought after slot.

Ludacris, amidst talk of a Def Jam presidency, will perform on February 1, two days before the Super Bowl at an ESPN the Magazine event. Soulja Boy is also scheduled to perform on February 2 in another event sponsored by ESPN. With over 30 total musical slots to fill for Super Bowl coverage, expect more Hip Hop artists to confirm within the next two weeks.
