After speculation that Lil Wayne and DJ Drama might no longer work together in their arguably classic capacity, The Aphilliates‘ head told Rhapsody that a third installment of Dedication is underway. “We started working on it. It’s gonna be phenomenal
because I told Wayne if we do it, it really has to be something special
because when we did Dedication and Dedication 2, there wasn’t a new Wayne mixtape every week. The thing about Dedications
that was so great to me was the direction and the sound. It doesn’t
just sound like a lot of rapping, they sound like albums. And that’s
because of him and me,” said Drama.
Much of Lil Wayne‘s popularity has come from his Dedication and Da Drought series. 2006’s Dedication 2 was considered by Scratch magazine to be one of the best mixtapes ever, with its original production from Swizz Beatz, 9th Wonder and Just Blaze and edgy artistic concepts.
Questions emerged over the rapper and deejay’s relationship after Drama‘s federal crackdown with the RIAA in early 2007. In response to the incident, Lil Wayne told Vh1, “Smarten up…If you don’t play fair, all kind of things can
happen. You gotta watch people like DJ Clue, watch people like DJ
Khaled. They do it right.“
Amidst the questions of future work, Wayne did appear on “Cannon (Remix)” from Drama‘s recently-released Gangsta Grillz: The Album. No release date has been set for Dedication 3, though HipHopDX will keep you posted.
