Washington DC-born turntablist and producer DJ Spooky told press on Wednesday that he is headed where perhaps no Hip Hop artist has gone before, the other continent: Antarctica. There, the man who has divided his art between Hip Hop and Electronica intends to shoot a film called Terra Nova: The Antarctica Suite. A trailer of the project can be viewed by [clicking here].

The film is said to be appearing in the digital genre of next month’s Sundance Film Festival. The works explores the capability of making music exclusively with ice, and promises to lend itself to the geological, film and music communities. “I
just want to say I’ll be thinking about a lot of things – like spending New
Years eve near and on icebergs, or listening to the sound of the ocean
currents on Christmas. It helps you think about new things,
Spooky said via email to fans and press.

Having worked with Hip Hop acts like Chuck D in the past, Spooky most recently released Creation Rebel, an authorized remix project with the Trojan Records catalogue. The remixes include hits from Bob Marley and Barrington Levy, with a lot of emphasis upon the samples derived into Hip Hop.
