The Weeknd’s classic 2011 mixtape House Of Balloons put the Toronto singer on the path to become the global superstar he is today. The nine-track mixtape ushered in a new R&B sound that later trickled into the pop world with The Weeknd’s subsequent releases.

With the tenth anniversary of the groundbreaking mixtape on the horizon, The Weeknd is blessing fans with a special gift by releasing House of Balloons on streaming platforms for the first time. “The summer of 2011 will always be marked by House of Balloons,” Arsham said in a statement. “Like a time travel device, the album transports me back to that specific moment in time every time I listen. It is a great privilege to work with The Weeknd and the XO team to reimagine the iconic album art of House of Balloons as an eroded sculpture for the 10-year anniversary.”

The Weeknd has a lot to celebrate despite being snubbed by the Grammys in 2021. A year after his latest studio album release, After Hours, the 31-year-old singer continues to receive platinum plaques.

“After Hours” was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America earlier in March, as well as “In Your Eyes” and “Save Your Tears.” “Heartless” officially became 2x-platinum, while the album’s biggest single, “Blinding Lights,” is now a staggering 7x-platinum. “Blinding Lights” also just became the first song ever to remain in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 for an entire year.
