Although the spotlight was on Floyd Mayweather Jr and Ricky Hatton on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas, one cannot forget the UK crowd jeering Tyrese‘s singing of the National Anthem.

After the fight, one fighter took the jeers to heart and promised to avenge the blatant disrespect.

“They booed the national anthem…you know I have to get him!”Bernard Hopkins exclaimed during the post fight press conference. The fight in question would place Bernard Hopkins up against the UK’s super middleweight champion, Joe Calzaghe. “I’ll just say that the British are coming and they left with their ass kicked.”

Calzaghe and Hopkins has been a major talking point for boxing insiders after Calzaghe disposed of the undefeated Mikkel Kessler a month ago. Another British fighter against a legend such as Hopkins could prove to be very enticing for fight fans – especially after Saturday’s theatrics.

“I’ll never let a white boy beat me,”Hopkins said to Calzaghe as they went face to face in front of the media before Friday’s weigh-in for Mayweather and Hatton.

Elsewhere, Oscar De La Hoya was asked if he plans to face Hatton next year.

“I don’t want to say any plans, I’m gonna absorb this wonderful event and continue to keep training and enjoy the holidays with my family,”De La Hoya said during the post fight conference. “Theres still many options, you heard shane wanted a piece of Floyd. Let’s enjoy the holidays. We’re gonna eat our tamales and see if we can make 147, which I think we can.”

Asked again by ESPN.com‘s Dan Rafael if he would consider a Hatton fight, De La Hoya could not shy away and gave about as much insight as one could expect from the elusive Golden Boy.

“The reason why (a fight with Hatton) would be viable would be because of his style,”De La Hoya conceded. “It would be clash of the titans. You can’t rule anything out. I’m gonna wait until Saturday night and watch the replay for free and decide after that.”
