After weeks of being stuck in a rut, Hip Hop bursts back to the top of the charts thanks to a guy by the name of Sean Carter – you may know him better as Jay-Z. American Gangster romped its way to the #1 spot by nearly going gold and pushing just over 425k copies in its first week. This also ties Hov with Elvis Presley for #1 albums with ten and puts him only behind the Beatles in that regard.
Elsewhere, teen sensation, Chris Brown, made some noise with Exclusive as it lands at the #4 spot with 295k sold. Although all eyes were on Jay-Z, Cassidy had a strong showing with B.A.R.S sitting pretty at #10 with 63k sold in its first week. Kanye West finally drops out of the top 25 as Graduation sells 31k to place him at #26 and continues to creep toward double platinum. Nas’ Greatest Hits album barely makes a peep on the charts as it debuts at #124 with only 6800 copies sold.
